Consultations
At Reed’s Proofreads, we provide one-on-one virtual consultations for clients wanting to discuss their writing. There are two stages of consultation you can book: initial and midstream.
Initial consultations are intended for clients without a submission to discuss or review. These sessions focus heavily on brainstorming ideas, establishing writing goals, providing resources, and outlining work.
Midstream consultations are for clients with completed or nearly completed submissions. These sessions may include some similar facets as an initial consultation. However, they are intended to focus on the writing that exists primarily through real-time revisions and feedback. Discussing citations is also an option for midstream consultations.
When selecting your service, you can only choose one of these options. Additionally, you may elect to purchase Editor’s Notes from your consultation. These are written suggestions, resources, and takeaways from your conversation that the Editor will document and share with you after the consultation.
Revisions
Revision services are aimed at improving the quality of writing that our clients produce. There are two types of revision services you can book at Reed’s Proofreads: copy editing and line editing.
Copy editing services are for those who need an editor to review and revise specific errors or choices. Generally, these are focused on spelling, grammar, syntax, lexicon, basic fact-checking, and formatting. Copy editing, while narrow in scope, is thorough in nature – it is ideal for those wanting strong foundational revisions on their submissions.
Line editing services are for those who need more extensive and personalized revisions. These services include all of those mentioned in copy editing, and additionally involve checking for readability, accessibility, and intelligibility. Finally, they may include brief rewrites as needed, along with Editor’s Notes in the document. Line editing is more comprehensive, and best suited for clients desiring exhaustive work on their submissions.

Citations
At this time, we provide references according to the Chicago Manual of Style, seventeenth edition (CMOS 17e) and the Modern Language Association, ninth edition (MLA 9e). There are two types of citation services you can book at Reed’s Proofreads: in-line and end document.
In-line services are for those who need references in the body of their text or document (i.e., footnotes and parentheticals for CMOS and MLA, respectively).
End document services are for those who need references at the end of their text or document, such as a bibliography or works cited. Please note, we do not offer annotated bibliographies.
For all citation services, an accurate source list of the references to be formatted and included is required as part of the submission. See more information about what to include on the booking form.
